Live Music in Eleuthera according to Kristel
Hooray for music lovers! You just hit close to my heart!!!
There are several local bands that are pretty good. On Eleuthera:
The Snapshot Band - They play every Friday at Ronnie's on Cupids Cay - starting around 11pm. They perform Bahamian and current hip hop favorites.
Eleuthera Express - not sure when or where they play - ask Butch at GHB airport - Bahamas Air counter. They are another band performing current Bahamian music.
The Rum Runners - They're out of south Eleuthera - I believe they play at Club 9000 in Green Castle - not sure what nights... ask around. They perform some great rake and scrape.
Dr Seabreeze - he may be playing at Dolcevita (the old Rainbow Inn Restaurant in Rainbow Bay) on either Wednesdays or Fridays. Seabreeze sings the classic calypso music and plays his acoustic guitar.
On Harbour Island:
The Brilanders - The Brilanders are a popular local band specializing in Bahamian music. Their home base is Sea Grapes Nightclub where they often play on Wednesdays - sometimes on the weekends... they're pretty well known around the Bahamas for their original songs such as "Harbour Island" on the Keep the Vibe Alive CD and "Bahamian Music" on the Keep the Vibe Alive 2 CD and more. They used to play at Bottom Harbour on Sunday afternoons (in north Eleuthera) - not sure if this will start up again. You can see their website at www.eleutheraliving.com/brilanders.htm
The Courage Band - They've got the hit CD "Vitamin C" - and are a fantastic reggae band - they've played all over the islands and have opened for Sheila E and for Beres Hammond. See their website at www.courageband.com
Native Sons - This local band specializes in classic calypso and soca. They often play at the local hotels around harbour island.
Hatchet Bay: Seaside Bar in Hatchett Bay. This bar right on the sea in Hatchett Bay has an open air dance floor. Friday and Saturday nights they have a live Rake 'n Scrape band "Alex and the Boys". These guys play great music - from Bahamian to Calypso to American. The band plays from 8pm thru midnight. They are for hire for special events, so watch for info about them on this site under the music link. I'm trying to get exact dates the Briland bands are playing, because it's worth a trip north to hear them!
For amateur musical entertainment, try Elvina's Bar in Gregory Town on Tuesday and Friday nights for open jam sessions and karaoke. Michael's Bar in Governor's (I think it's called Charlie's now) used to have live music, so you can check in there.
Have fun, I'll try to update this email with better times and days soon.
